Crazy Colorado Trip: Return to Hotchkiss

Ok, so I made the crazy decision to return to my sister’s home. I drove the almost 300 mile trip without my mom. Brave or stupid, you be the judge. We had a great time with them, even if it was super hot. I know that Vegas is hot, really hot. But when it’s 115 outside and you can be in your 75 degree home it’s way different than it being 100 outside and there is nowhere you can go to get into the AC.

One way we tried to beat the heat was going on outings. The first one (July 16th) was up to a place called Pioneer town. It was really neat.  One of the most interesting buildings was the old school house. Riley thought it was fun to ring the bell. The amazing part was that it wasn’t a replica, it had really been used as a school house! All the buildings were like that. They had been moved to the site to help preserve them, but they were really used for the purpose that you were seeing them being displayed as.

I had to get a picture of the old camera! Too cool. And the grain silos were really interesting! They are going to make really fun textures for Photoshop!

The funniest thing to me was that the kids’ favorite part was playing king of the hill on this rock!

My favorite part however was the church. They have a meditation church. Strange, but really neat. Basically, they do not have a worship service. But you can come and sit and enjoy music and meditate. Not that we got to do any of that, 4 kids.. but a beautiful idea anyway.

After exploring we returned to Mya and Ben’s house. It was so hot that we set up the little pool and sprinkler and let the kids play. We enjoyed popsicles and water too!

We ended the evening with roasted marshmallows and my new favorite way to have smores: Ritz crackers and reeses peanut butter cups! YUMMY! Thanks Ben!
